Vision-Ease Lens a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of high quality ophthalmic lenses has a position available for a Coating Engineer. Vision-Ease Lens is located in Ramsey, Minnesota a NW suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Vision-Ease Lens is one of the most highly regarded names in the lens making industry and to this day remains independently held. The sole objective of Vision-Ease Lens is to develop and manufacture more intelligent, more affordable lens technology. Summary: Plan and execute successful projects that lead to new coatings and/or processes for existing coatings of ophthalmic lenses. Provide scientific expertise regarding general chemistry, plastics and UV and Thermally cured coatings for the areas of research, engineering and manufacturing. Responsibilities: Generate technically sound ideas for improved coatings that could be commercially successful in either the polycarbonate lens manufacturing operations, Formulate coatings, design experiments and conduct thorough experimentation that will provide a solid understanding of the chemistry upon which will be built the future generation of superior coatings, Assist the chemical engineers as well as other manufacturing personnel with the implementation of new coatings in production and with the transfer of coatings technology from one facility to another, Provide work direction for technicians, Perform studies to generate data in the evaluation of alternative raw materials, process variations, new equipment, test method comparisons, competitive lenses, commercial coatings, etc, Specify, acquire, maintain and repair various laboratory equipment including the FTIR microscope, optical stereomicroscope, viscometer, humidity meter, ovens, QUV, steam generators, vacuum pump, etc, and Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications: Requires a Master's degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must have good communication and interpersonal skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
