UV & EB Coatings for Plastics Resources Available

Chevy Chase, MD (September 28, 2006) — New resources are now available on the use of ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam (EB) plastic coatings.  The RadTech UV/EB for Plastics Information Pack includes “UV/EB Coatings for Plastic: Papers and Presentations,” a CD with articles and papers including the latest applications, developments, operational and product benefits of the technology; and a companion paper, “Achieving Adhesion of UV/EB Cured Materials on Plastics,” which reviews the types of plastic substrates and coating materials, and offers tips and suggestions for proper pretreatment.

“With manufacturers increasingly looking towards technologies that offer environmental benefits, increased productivity and superior properties, UV and EB are often the best choice,” says Petra L’Abbe, PPG Industries.  “This is especially true for processing plastics where the benefits of the plastic may be substantially enhanced by a UV/EB coating.”

“UV/EB materials are used extensively on plastic materials, from resilient ‘no wax’ floors to most automotive headlamps to sporting goods,” says Pat Jacobs, of Bayer Material Sciences.   “These RadTech resources will help simplify the process for other manufacturers interested in exploring this exciting technology.”  The CD and guide are available from RadTech at no charge, by e-mailing alessandra@radtech.org, or calling 240-497-1242.

UV and EB are high value, rapid throughput processes offering the virtual elimination of emissions and lower energy consumption compared with traditional methods—providing manufacturers with a safe, fast and efficient pollution prevention technology.  As a result, the industry continues to grow at over twice the rate of traditional processes.
